On September 18, 1872, the third Greek-letter fraternity for women was founded at Syracuse University by ten forward-thinking women. Their goal was to establish an organization which promoted the growth of character, unity of feeling, sisterly affection and social communion. The Alpha Phi organization strives to create a lifelong sisterhood, through which women always feel as connected to Alpha Phi and their sisters as they did during college. One of the founding members of the National Panhellenic Conference, Alpha Phi is one of the oldest and largest women’s fraternities in North America and has a global presence.
