Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, the first sorority
ever to be constitutionally bound to a frat (Phi Beta Sigma) was founded on the
campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. on January 16, 1920 by 5 women
who are tenderly referred to as the 5 Pearls: Arizona Cleaver Stemmons, Myrtle
Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, Fannie Pettie Watts, and Pearl Anna Neal.
The vision of these women was a black sorority that focused on scholarship,
service, sisterly love, and Finer Womanhood above all. The sorority colors are
Royal Blue and Pure White. Zeta Interests can join through undergraduate
chapters at a college or university, or through a graduate chapter after
acquiring a college degree. If you have the privilege of being offered
membership into this PHI-ne sorority, you would have international jazz singer
Sarah Vaughn, Violette Anderson (the first woman of color to practice before
the U.S. Supreme Court), and famed writer Zora Neale Hurston as sorors.
