Kappa Delta Sorority, one of the largest women’s organizations in the world with over 200,000 collegiate lifetime members, was founded on October 23, 1897 at State Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia by four women with similar ideals: Lenora Ashmore Blackiston, Mary Sommerville Sparks Hendrick, Julia Gardiner Tyler Wilson, and Sara Turner White. The Kappa Delta founding beliefs are friendship, fellowship and sisterly love, the colors are Olive Green and Pearl White, and the sorority’s motto is “Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest.” If you are fortunate enough to be offered membership to this organization, you will be joining the ranks of noted Kappa Delta sorors that include actress and Miss USA 1996 Ali Landry and artist Georgia O’Keeffe.
