Kappa Alpha Theta, the first Greek lettered women’s fraternity, was founded on January 27, 1870 at DePauw University by four women: Bettie Locke (Hamilton), Alice Allen (Brant), Bettie Tipton (Lindsay) and Hannah Fitch (Shaw) on the ideal of sisterhood. Today it is one of the top 5 sororities with over 210,000 initiated members. The organization’s colors are Black and Gold. Kappa Alpha Theta was the first women’s fraternity to establish a chapter in Canada and Thetas were the first women admitted to Phi Beta Kappa. Are you a Kappa Alpha Theta interest?
